Halloween is big here at School for the Blind. Really big! Some of the kids told me several weeks ago what their costumes would be. Big Footsie always wore bat wings and walked the halls on his leash at Halloween. So naturally Alex is going to have to be in costume. (more…)

In the middle of a story hour my work-study student, Mary, came to tell me she couldn’t find Alex. I suggested she look on a table in my office — his favorite spot lately. Before long, our new first grader asked why Alex was on a table. I said that he just liked it there! (more…)

A day without Alex almost falls flat

A day without Alex here with me on the job is…just not fun. I left him early this morning at the office of his vet, Dr. Cole Bierbaum. As part of a complete physical for his new job it was discovered that Alex needed some teeth pulled.

We weighed him: 8.4 pounds. “Has he had anything to eat this morning?” I told them no. (more…)
