Students offer thoughts on former head library cat

There are memorial pages for Big Footsie on the Feline Rescue and Rehome Web site.  My fifth graders have written something to be included there.

From Brandon, 5th grade at Arkansas School for the Blind:

“Big Footsie was my best friend.  I am terribly sorry he died.  He can never be replaced.  He was my friend.  He was the cat I knew the best.  Since the loss, I have decided to do a memorial service for Big Footsie on either Saturday or Sunday with my family.” (more…)

Treats and Tomatoes

In the life of our school whoever is our library cat is not “just a cat!” The job means being included in the lives of our students, and they want our library cat to know everything that goes on with them.

One of my 5th graders had a garden this summer and he grew tomatoes – one of which he brought me. Before he would hand it over to me, though, he told Alex all about it, and it had to pass Alex’s inspection! From the way Alex’s ears went back I am not sure just how much he is into tomatoes but I sure enjoyed it. (more…)

Kids gather to hear about Cat Heaven

This week my 1st-3rd graders come to the library for the first time this year. Alex was lying on the front desk this morning enjoying the attention of Big Footsie’s very best friend on campus, our instrumental music teacher, Mr. G. He and the Foots were buddies from the day they met. (more…)
